Guest Speaker, Hunter Dockery

When Jack and Rosemarie Miller asked Hunter and Julie to lead a church planting team to Ireland in 1985 they felt their only option was to say yes. They were afraid of the unknown, sad to leave friends and family, and were pretty much clueless, yet the Miller’s words and lives were like a great bell ringing with grace and mission. The Dockerys
felt Jesus was calling them to lay down their lives for His message of hope.

The Dockery’s 12 years of church planting work spread all over Ireland,
into Eastern Europe, and Russia during their time on the field with Serge. Hunter served as a Serge board member for six years after returning to the U.S. to pastor Redeemer Presbyterian Church in Winston Salem, N.C. They returned to work full-time with Serge in October of 2015.

Hunter works with the executive director Bob Osborne to develop
ministry partnerships. He’s passionate about helping people get a glimpse into the mission’s work and see how to invest leadership skills, wisdom, and financial resources into this ministry. Because of Serge’s recent growth, Hunter believes ministry partners are needed now more than ever.

Hunter and Julie have three grown sons: Jackson (married to Sara),
Jonathan, and Spencer. They love farming, sailing, eating great food, and watching the Kingdom expand around the world. Returning to Serge to serve today is a beautiful full-circle story.

Readings & Scripture

Pre-Service Text: 2 Peter 1:16
16 For we did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty.

Call To Worship: Psalm 24
Psalm 24 (NIV)

LEADER: 1 The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it,
the world, and all who live in it;
2 for he founded it on the seas
and established it on the waters.
3 Who may ascend the mountain of the Lord?
Who may stand in his holy place?

ALL: 4 The one who has clean hands and a pure heart,
who does not trust in an idol
or swear by a false god.
5 They will receive blessing from the Lord
and vindication from God their Savior.

LEADER: 6 Such is the generation of those who seek him,
who seek your face, God of Jacob.

ALL: 7 Lift up your heads, you gates;
be lifted up, you ancient doors,
that the King of glory may come in.

LEADER: 8 Who is this King of glory?

ALL: The Lord strong and mighty,
the Lord mighty in battle.

LEADER: 9 Lift up your heads, you gates;
lift them up, you ancient doors,
that the King of glory may come in.
10 Who is he, this King of glory?

ALL: The Lord Almighty—
he is the King of glory.

Sermon Title: Jesus Moves into the Neighborhood

Central Text: John 1:14
“And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.”

Benediction: The Creation Creed
I bear the weight of the image of God.
I am fearfully and wonderfully made,
With purpose and dignity,
A priest in this creation temple,
Continuing the work of my Creator,
Bringing order and shalom to the chaos around me,
Seeing His kingdom come.

Post-Service Text: Ezek 37:27
27 My dwelling place shall be with them, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
