The beautiful terrain of North Carolina has been my stepping stone into landscape painting. I see the opportunity to portray the different personalities of natural spaces here.

I currently work with acrylic and graphite on canvas. I build layers of light and dark, using pencils, paintbrushes, sponges, or paint rags as my tools. I often start with layers of washes of acrylic, much like watercolor. I tease things out in an intuitive way, drawing into the paint. Thick and thin, transparent and opaque, I create layers and a sense of light.

I want the viewer to be intrigued and fed by what I’ve done. It is not about me, it is about their experience and what it wakes up in them. Especially if that effect is a lasting one, then I feel I’ve done my job.
